Berlin, October 8, 2026 – Renowned dermatologist, nutrition expert, and bestselling author Dr. med. Yael Adler has secured another significant legal victory against Amazon EU S.à r.l. before the Berlin Regional Court II (Landgericht Berlin II). In its judgment of October 6, 2026 (Case No. 102 O 30/26), another chamber of the court prohibited Amazon from distributing two additional books that commercially exploited Dr. Adler’s name without her consent. Amazon faces an administrative fine of up to €250,000 for each violation. Dr. Adler was once again represented by the law firm Gelbart Legal.

The proceedings concerned the books offered on amazon.de under the titles “GENIAL ERNÄHRT COOKBOOK: Inspired by Dr. med. Yael Adler: Recipes for More Energy, Lightness and Joy of Life”and “Genial Ernährt! – Workbook: Insights into Dr. med. Yael Adler’s Lessons”, allegedly authored by “Laura Lehrer”and “Jake Potter,” respectively. Both publications appropriated the title of Dr. Adler’s SPIEGEL bestselling book “Genial ernährt! Klüger essen, entspannter genießen, besser leben” (“Brilliantly Nourished! Eat Smarter, Enjoy More Relaxedly, Live Better”) and prominently featured her name.

The court made clear that Dr. Adler is not required to tolerate the use of her name, without her knowledge and consent, for the marketing of third-party products. The chamber found that the use of Dr. Adler’s name constituted an unlawful exploitation of her reputation and violated her general right of personality. The judges expressly emphasized that only the holder of a name may decide whether, and under what conditions, that name may be used for the advertising purposes of third parties.

According to the court, Dr. Adler’s name was deliberately used to attract the attention of potential buyers and to increase sales of the books at issue. The court held that mentioning her name was not necessary to inform consumers. Rather, the chamber found that the promotional effect clearly outweighed any conceivable public interest in information.

Dr. med. Yael Adler welcomed the ruling:

“This judgment protects not only my name but also consumers. Anyone purchasing a book should be able to trust that well-known authors genuinely stand behind the advertising claims used to market it. It cannot be acceptable for third parties to exploit the success of my books and the credibility of my medical work for their own commercial purposes.”

The ruling forms part of a series of successful proceedings brought by Dr. Yael Adler and Gelbart Legal against the unauthorized commercial exploitation of her name and her bestselling works.
